What is Womxn for Wild?

Womxn for Wild is for those who love the outdoors in all its forms and want to help care for it. Those who want to be more responsible outdoors. Those that adore South Africa and want to support its outdoor spaces alongside the communities that rely on them.

Through our hosted experiences in the African outdoors we’re hoping to tackle topics such as:

✔️ Inclusivity for all lovers of the outdoors

✔️ Responsible, conscious travel

✔️ Sustainable living

✔️ Effecting change for the better

✔️ All while seeking out the beauty of the natural world

Hosted + curated outdoor experiences

Who the heck are we?

Womxn for Wild has been a complete passion project for us and we're thrilled to see it resonating with so many womxn.

It's started to grow in an authentic and natural way, which makes our hearts swell with pride and excitement for what's to come. We're both avid adventurers and can't imagine anything better than having a bunch of like-minded peeps to explore new places with!

Carmen Claire van der Westhuizen

My relationship with the outdoors only really began in 2018. And once it began, I fell completely in love. But it was daunting! Being 26 and starting a whole new lifestyle, not having any friends who wanted to do the same things, I had to navigate it all alone. It took months to pluck up the courage to go to the rock climbing gym, and about a year before I went for my first surf lesson. So that's where the desire to grow a community like Womxn for Wild stemmed from. The desire to create a platform for womxn to get out and try new things with a safe community. I can not wait to meet you all!

Melanie van Zyl

Born, bred and based in Johannesburg, Melanie van Zyl cut her teeth working for South Africa's oldest travel magazine. Getaway sent her on many a wild journey, from tripping over elephants across the Zambezi Region to exploring Mauritius' foodie backstreets, but all it did was teach her that there's still no place like home. Like every good Vaalie, you can't keep her away from the sea.

And the rest is history!

We got into Getaway magazine!

17kg, 12 hikers, 10 coffee rations, three nights, two passes and one community project. Melanie van Zyl does the maths and sums the Mnweni Circuit up as the most spectacular Drakensberg hike.

A 10 STEP GUIDE TO UNDERWATER ADVENTURE

We rallied a group of womxn who wanted to level up their underwater abilities. So, we hooked up with our favourite Sodwana Bay dive school, which took those newfound skills from the swimming pool to the extraordinary Indian Ocean.
